Cell phone reception will become unreliable or nonexistent before reaching the shooting facility. Make sure your directions are not dependent on it.
California Wheel Burners' monthly club matches are held at the MB-Tactical(MBT) facility near Lake Piru. The facility is north of Los Angeles, south of Bakersfield and east of Ventura. From I-5 take S-126 west for about 10 miles. Exit to "Piru Recreation Area". This is Center Street. Turn right onto Orchard Street, then right on Main Street. (Piru Canyon Rd.) After crossing the bridge over the river turn right when you see the signs for the shooting facilities. The road becomes mix dirt and pavement and after a distance you will stay left at the Y as the signs indicate. Slow to 5mph as you approach the public ranges. These are the first ranges you encounter at the entrance to the shooting facility. You will see signs directing you to stop and check-in. If you have previously signed the MBT Wavier then do not stop but please proceed slowly and continue to our ranges. If MBT staff inquire tell them you are attending the Wheelburners event. If you have not previously signed the MBT Waiver then stop here and go to the kiosk to sign a wavier before proceeding to the Wheelburners ranges. The MBT Wavier may be signed online here and only needs be done once per calender year. Continue at 15mph until you see some berms on the right (south side of dry wash). The Wheel Burners ranges are just past the "cowboy town". Take the dirt track (right) through the dry wash and park along the back of the ranges. During the rainy months, the wash is passable, but only if water is not flowing. If this road does not seem to be a good option, another cut over road exists about a hundred yards before the Wheelburners sign.
Access Note: The heavy rains during winter have left two routes across the wash that separates the main road from our bays. Which to choose depends on your vehicle. If you have a high clearance vehicle use the east cut over road just beyond cowboy town as above. If your vehicle is norrower than a full size truck use the west cut over as follows Shortley after passing the facility entry you will see shooting bays at your left. As you continue (about 200 yrds) you will enter a tight "S" curve. At the exit of these curves turn right (south) and cross the wash. Turn left (east) at the next road and continue until you reach the Wheelburners bays at roads end. This route can be passed by full size trucks but it's a tight fit. If your not comfortable with it walk the last short distance.
