Revolver Match Report

Rain was forecast but that turned out to be a totally false alarm. Those who persevered and shot were rewarded with a cool and cloudy morning turning bright and sunny by noon. 13 hardy souls showed up, including Ricardo who we have not seen in a while. He pitched in with Sharon and Fred to set up the Bay 3 stages while Pete handled Bays 1 and 2 with some help from Art and Dan. Limited shooting was the "battle of the decongestants" as both Dan and Cedric were fighting a cold. Cedric's strong showing on Far & Near held off the surge that Dan put on when his head cleared, but he lost overall Limited to John when he got stuck in traffic on the Freeway. Tim showed why "damage control" on Far & Near is so important as he shot consistently on all stages to take Open overall. Thanks to all who set up and took the stages down at the end. All the effort is greatly appreciated.

The stages: Smooth; A close approximation of an IRC stage courtesy of Cedric. Decreasing size round plates with a rectangle stop plate. Courage was needed to keep a constant speed as the last round plate was only 6 inches! Cedric set this stage up after the rimfire event and must have practiced it! Freeway; The origin of the name is not entirely obvious, but it was a traffic jam of fun. Two close paper with 6 shots per each backed up by two lines of 5 steel targets fading away. Many techniques were tried but Art found the best method and won this one handily. Sharon showed determination as she pounded away on a balky popper to set the record for most rounds expended on this stage. Far & Near; The sun was nice and cooperative which made the targets a little harder with the backlighting. Everyone in Squad 2 was crowding the 0.3 second overtime margin but nobody had to eat one. Ron took Open best and Cedric was Limited leader. Tailhook; This did look a little like an approach to an aircraft carrier - two lines of 3 targets fading into a 5 plate rack. Come down on final approach and then stop abruptly on the plates. Moving was optional for mobility-challenged shooters like John. Art made the successful landing. Grab Bag; A smorgasboard of targetry conceived on the way to the range. Movement from right to left to make it difficult. Only the large popper at 20 yards was required from the start box and only the 3 tombstone "tunnel" was required in the end box. In between was the trapdoor to activate the clamshell (with X-count scoring) and an assortment of other targets, plates and poppers to muddle things up. Only 24 rounds total, but it seemed like more. Tim got past Art for the stage win.

Rimfire Match Report

Derek squeaked by Art to win his second match of the year. Art won handgun and Tim won rifle, but Derek's consistency was good enough for overall. The top 3 shooters had 2 stage wins apiece.

Stage Contribution Drawing

We'll have our drawing for the 2006 stage contributor awards at the March Revolver Match. Contributors are fewer than in the past due to shooting more postal events in 2006, but we decided to continue our tradition to encourage future participation.

March Rimfire Match

Impromptu stage design as usual - come early and help set 'em how you like to shoot. Shoot with .22 revolver or pistol, then repeat with an extra plate using rifle. Juniors pay only $5 so bring the youngsters. Newbies are $10 as usual; Regulars $15.

March ICORE Match

Far & Near plus the Australian Postal Match.

Championships

The early bird date has elapsed, but you should still send in an entry for the Southwest Regional Revolver Championship to be held in Richmond, April 21.

Early bird entry for the International Revolver Championship ends April 1st.
