October 2004 Newsletter

Match: A light turn out this month at thirteen attendees with some of the regulars missing out on the fun. The good news is the weather has finally cooled enough to make for fine shooting. Match Director Rich set up five stages that had a nice balance of fun and challenge. Ron W. won the match with three stage wins and two of those by considerable margins. Art placed second. Mike won the limited division winning stage five handily and Cedric took the final stage win. Both Gregg and Rob had some nice stages as well. The stages: X; Six papers setup to form an “x”. String one, engage the three left targets freestyle then the three right targets strong hand. String 2, engage the three right targets freestyle, then the three left targets weak hand. All two rounds each. El Prez; Three papers at about 10 yards. String one, engage each two rounds, mandatory reload then engage each two rounds. String two, repeat. Field; Two converging barriers with four groups of three papers each strewn about and just enough barrels placed around to break your rhythm. Start behind the spool about 15 yards from the barriers. The setup was a bit deceiving with distance seemingly exaggerated causing some people to find their position a bit off after reload. Racks; A 5 plate rack left. Another right. Stand behind the barrel about 15yrds away and engage. Each rack is a string and repeat for a total of four strings. An outstanding example of how, even a simple setup, when the distance is spot on can make for an ugly clash between confidence and reality. Aptitude Test; A teeny tiny stop plate center at 12 yrds with a big rectangle either side. Two round plates a little closer and a little more outboard. Best four of five strings.

Club Match: The November 13 match will be our annual turkey shoot. Featuring unusual targets and often unusual arms and of course food. It’s all about fun so don’t miss it. The December match also seems to be heading toward a fun thing with maybe some food. Who doesn’t love guns ‘n grub. A marriage made in heaven.

If you're looking for a ring to make the marriage official you may want to consider the Northrop club match on October 16. This month held at the Steel Challenge range down the road. No plaques this match but, yep you guessed it, there will be food. Don’t you just love autumn.
